Our Teaching Methodology
Providing an education for children with autism that fits their learning style is an important component of our program. At Autism Academy, we follow individualized instruction based on Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), which is an evidence-based framework for addressing the needs of students with autism within the educational environment. The basis of our instruction also includes the Structured Teaching Model, which is a structured technique specialized to the student’s visual processing strengths by organizing the physical structure of the room and providing a visual supply of information about activities This teaching methodology provides a comprehensive approach to helping students with autism gain the most from their education.
Elementary and Middle School Info
Students need care and attention, and our schools provide a 4-1 student-to-staff ratio to ensure that the needs of our students are being met. We determine more about how your child learns and we work on providing instruction through a variety of modalities according to these needs by utilizing specific material to improve competence in those areas. At Autism Academy, we blend academic and daily skills, like meal preparation, household tasks, and laundry skills, to increase their productivity and independence in the community, home and workplace.
High School Info
Our high school program is fully accredited and follows the graduation requirements of ADE. Our goal is to help prepare graduates for post-secondary opportunities, whether they earn a full high school diploma or a certificate of completion. During their time in our high school program, students will attend core classes but also will have options to explore interests in areas such as robotics, coding, cooking, theater and more. At AAED, we provide opportunities for your child to reach their greatest potential and develop their skills to ensure their success and become prepared for the next step in life.
Work-Based Learning
Our comprehensive program includes work-based learning activities where students can learn independent work behaviors. . A majority of our high school students participate in job training, whether it is in the community or on-campus. Skills practiced include performing job tasks independently, working in a group setting with reduced supervision, accepting direction from supervisor, soliciting help appropriately, and maintaining appropriate behavior. . This can help them not only develop the necessary skills for post-secondary life but also prepare them for different opportunities.
