Autism Academy’s Value on Safety

Students, even children with autism, spend a huge chunk of time at school. It is just as vital to keep them safe inside the school’s premises as it is at home. Because of the nature of the condition, safety measures and accommodations can become more difficult to apply to children with autism.

Safety on an Individual Level

Our programs take into account each child’s individuality and uniqueness. When tackling safety challenges, we make sure to work closely with families to design the most ideal accommodation for each student. From preparations and routines to communication strategies, each individual is taken into account to create a safe learning environment that is most conducive to learning.

Being centered around our students, our decisions regarding safety focuses on lessening their struggles and difficulties with their condition. Physical and emotional safety is such a priority that every staff member is not only trained in behavioral crisis prevention, but is also equipped with the right skills to keep every student safe inside the school premises.

Safety-Care Certification

At the Autism Academy for Education and Development, each staff member has completed the Safety-Care and Behavioral Safety Training, a leading crisis prevention course aimed at preventing and de-escalating behavioral challenges early on. This course centers around managing behaviors as safely as possible.

Safety-Care is founded upon evidence-based research in the areas of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS). The curriculum equips our staff with the best strategies available in helping and teaching autistic children.
