Transitioning from high school to adulthood is an exciting milestone for any student, and with the right support, students with autism can navigate this journey with confidence and success.
At AAED, we recognize the importance of equipping our students not just with academic knowledge but with the practical skills and confidence they need to thrive.
Our post 12th grade programs for students with autism are designed to bridge this gap, offering specialized training, real-world experience, and comprehensive support tailored to the unique needs of students with autism. AAED’s B.R.I.D.G.E. program is for students who have chosen to stay for additional autism post-secondary education after completing 12th grade.
Work-Based Learning and the B.R.I.D.G.E. Teaching Program at AAED
Most of the high school students in AAED engage in specialized programs for autism that are geared toward career exploration and preparation. Most of our autism internship programs and autism work programs focus on community job training, developing independent work behaviors and enhancing post-secondary opportunities.
Students in our post-secondary programs for students with autism may also take part in on-campus job training, including areas such as delivery, clerical/business, domestic/housekeeping, culinary/hospitality, retail/warehouse, horticulture/landscaping, and technology.
Through these graduate programs for students with autism, students practice:
- Performing job tasks independently
- Working in group settings with minimal supervision
- Accepting directions from supervisors
- Soliciting help appropriately
- Maintaining appropriate workplace behavior
